The IMBA is proud to recognize some of teams which deserve special mention with great finishes to the season.
Jr. Rookie 2 coached by Cam Mugford made it to the finals of the SSMBA championship and ultimately finished 2nd in a close Final. They were neck and neck till the open inning, Stayner had their top 3 batters up and ultimately prevailed over Innisfil. Great job team!!
Midget houseCoached by Brad Matwijec, this team finished the regular season 10-3-1 for a third place finish. Going into the playoffs Brad felt good about his team. In the playoffs Innisfil beat strong teams from Beaver Valley, Ivy, and Midland to get to the championship round. In round 3, Innisfil defeated Ivy 4-2 in game 1, lost to Midland in game 2, eliminated Midland in game 3, and eventually lost to Ivy in the Championship game. So a very respectable 2nd place finish. Great job!!
Bantam ACoached by Brent Fellman, this team as mentioned in earlier news dramatically qualified at the YSBA playdowns for one of two spots to represent YSBA and IMBA at the provincial championships in Guelph this weekend. This is the first time an Innisfil team has qualified for provincials at A level Rep. At the provincials, Innisfil Bantam A continued to surprise and turn heads winning 3 of 5 games, ultimately making it to the semifinals and finishing tied for 3rd in the province. Innisfil started on Friday with a dramatic walkoff come from behind 7-6 win over Toronto Playground (the top team in the YSBA/TBA loop). They continued with a 21-11 mercy win over North London. Saturday, Innisfil lost 9-1 to Tecumseh (the eventual champ), they continued with another crazy come from behind walkoff 12-11 win over Chatham. This brought Innisfil to the semis facing some tough pitching from Quinte ultimately losing 9-0. A great top 4 provincial finish, especially considering most had never played rep baseball before this season. You've made us proud boys!!
Peewee ACoached by Todd Galardo, also mentioned in earlier news this team finished the season with a very respectable 10-8-2 record finishing 5th out of 16 teams. Innisfil Peewee A competed in the YSBA playdowns in Vaughan and had a very good showing eventually improving to a 3rd place finish. It was a long, grueling weekend with big wins over Thornhill, Barrie, and Orillia (the eventual qualifier). By luck of the draw, Innisfil played the top team Orillia 3 times in a row, beating them once, but Orillia eventually pulled through and won the sole YSBA qualifier spot. Notable performance by Will Payne who pitched 6 1/3 innings of no hit/no walk perfect performance which help beat a strong Barrie team.
Peewee A also competed in the Annual CNE Peewee tournament shortly after the YSBA playdowns. This tournament has been around for 60 years, and has notable celebrities such as Wayne Gretzky, Steve Podborski, Ken Dryden, etc.. as alumni. In this single elimination tournament, Innisfil won the first 2 games with wins over Burlington and Clarington which got them to the final of the Pegg Cup. In the Pegg Cup, Paul Godfrey(former president of the Blue Jays), threw the first pitch. Unfortunately Welland beat Innisfil 9-0 in the final, but it was fun experience for all our boys, coaches, and parents. Highly recommended for our Peewee team for next year.
Mosquito SelectCoached by Craig Moyse, played in the B qualification for the YSBA. Innisfil eventually made it to the B final ultimately losing to Orillia. On Friday they beat Newmarket, On Saturday they beat Bolton after a rain delay, then went on to beat Barrie (a team they had not beaten all season). This lead them to the B final facing the tough Orillia team ultimately losing to them. Craig was very proud of the improvement of the team, and wishes to thank his coaching staff Dave, Bruce, and Jason, players, parents and manager Carrie Payne for a fun season.
Minor Mosquito SelectCoached by Andrew Thompson, played in the A qualification for the YSBA. This team had a good year finishing the regular season in 6th place out of 18 teams with an 8-5-1 record. Innisfil eventually made it to a 3rd place finish in the YSBA A playoffs, an improvement on their regular season. This team also was a semifinalist in 2 tournaments this year in Muskoka and the hosted Innisfil tournament. Andrew wishes to thank the league executive for another great year of work.
